Final Post

Hey Everyone,

Unfortunately this is my final post, so I hope you have all enjoyed reading and seeing the progress and final product of my project, it been a long and stressful few months but I am really happy with my final outcome and fingers crossed I get the grade I want :)

My Finished Evaluation Video

Hey Everyone,

So here is my final evaluation video for my music magazine, hope you like it :)

Evaluation Finishing off

Hey Everyone,

So today I just exported my final evaluation so that it now opens as a video and is all finished in time for my deadline. I will hopefully be uploading my video soon :)

Evaluation progression 4

Hey Everyone,

Today I recorded a few more people to add to my target audience section of my evaluations. After I had uploaded these videos the only thing I had left to do was create my answer for question 7. I already had my audio recorded so it was simply just adding in the visual aids. After I had finished this question I went through and checked to make sure everything was perfect before I tried to find some background music for my video. After searching for a while to find a good song I eventually found one suitable and edited it into my video so it was all ready to be exported for my deadline tomorrow.

Evaluation progression 3

Hey Everyone,

Today I finished of my answer to question 3, 5 and 6. I have added all the images along side the audio for questions 3 and 5. For question 6 I have finished the audio and recording of me photo shopping an image, and I have also added the video of me adjusting the camera settings before it. For the rest of the day I just tweaked things so I'm ready for when I come to recording more target audience videos tomorrow and ready for when I create my question 7 answer.

Evaluation progression 2

Hey Everyone,

I finally managed to get the videos on my laptop!! So I have spent the last few hours importing them into premiere pro and cropping them down to the right length. I also put them in the right place on my timeline and added the titles in front of each question, as well as adjusting the audio so its loud enough.
Hey Everyone,

So after many failed attempts I still haven't managed to get my videos on to my laptop but I have a plan in mind which will fingers crossed work. In the mean time I am going to focus of question 3 and 4. I've decided that for these questions I am going to record myself speaking my script and then create some visual aids afterwards. So I recorded my voice for both questions, and I then created some images of key words to go on the screen whilst I'm talking. Here is a few things I created and downloaded to use in these questions

Evaluation progress

Hey Everyone,

Today I recorded my first and second questions. I also recorded the end of my of my target audience question. Unfortunately I had some trouble getting my videos on my laptop so I could put them onto the video editor I am using which is Adobe Premiere Pro, so whilst I was figuring out a solution for this problem, I created the titles for each question that I wanted in my video and created the beginning and end titles. I also inserted my target audience videos into premiere pro. Here's an example of what the titles look like:

The Beginning Of My Video Evaluation

Hey Everyone,

Today I started to prepare for my recordings. I printed of my final product as well as my preliminary task and my rough cut. I also printed of a style model for each of my pages so I can compare them in my video, and finally I printed of my finished script. Once I had done all this I had a quick run through a few of my questions to make sure I knew what I was saying. I then downloaded a screen recorder on my computer so I could record myself in Photoshop showing what I did when I photo-shopped my images. After I recorded this on my computer I recorded some audio of me explaining what I'm doing to go along side the Photoshop video.

Evaluation Update

Hey Everyone,

Today I recorded a few people from my target audience as part of one of my questions. I also recorded myself changing the shutter speed and aperture on the camera and how to change the zoom and focus as part of the question about what I have learnt about technology during this project.

Evaluation Script Part 3

Hey Everyone,

Today I finished writing the script for my evaluation so it is now ready to use when I come to recording my video.

Wednesday, 30 April 2014

Evaluation Script Part 2

Hey Everyone

Today I continued writing my script. I wrote out my answers for question 3, 4, 5 and 6! These questions where quite simple to change into a script apart from question 6 where I had to be careful to explain exactly what I wanted to say about that particular piece of technology. Now I only have question 7 to write into my script and then I can start filming.

Evaluation Script

Hey Everyone,

So now that I have answered all the evaluation questions I have started to write my script. Today I wrote the bullet points from question 1 and the brief description of question 2 and 3 into a script style ready for my to record and add to my video in the next few days.

Evaluation: Questions 6 and 7

Hey Everyone,

Today I finished answering all my questions. For question 6 I have just bullet pointed a few of the main things I have learnt about technology throughout the project which I will then expand on when I come to writing my script and filming my video. For question 7, I again just bullet pointed the main things I have learnt throughout the project from creating my preliminary task to my final product. Heres just a few of my points on each question:

Question 6:
*How to adjust the shutter speed and aperture on a camera and understand why I need to and what it does to the picture.
*Learnt how to cut out images using several tools on Photoshop
*Learnt how to air brush skin, and use the burn and dodge tool.
*Learned how to make a layout by using frames, how to then place images and text into these frames and move them within the frames on Indesign.

Question 7:
*To understand how to make a page look professional.
*The importance of colour and fonts as well as the actually context of the text or image.
*How to take better photos by using the camera and Photoshop skills I learnt as well as now knowing what lighting I need for a good image and how compose a good image.
*I learnt how to make use of white space. Also how to follow conventions and make it look like a real magazine.

Evaluation: Questions 2,3,4 and 5

Hey Everyone,

Today I answered questions 2, 3, 4 and 5. For question 2 I have given a brief description of what the models in my magazine present, as well as the setting and facial expression in the images. I have done this for my front cover, contents and double page spread, and explained is these representations of this particular social group support or subvert the stereotype.
For question 3 I researched the institutions of the magazines that I was using as style models. I then explained why each institution would distribute my magazine and if I had the choice to choose the institution that woukd distribute it which one I would choose and why.
For question 4 I just explained the age range of my target audience and why I think it would be that age range.
And finally for question 5 I talked about my target audience research and how I included that into my magazine to make sure it would address/attract my target audience.

Evaluation Intro

Hey Everyone,

So now that I have finished my music magazine I have to evaluate it, I can do this by either creating a DVD style video or a PowerPoint presentation. I don't really like speaking in front of people so I decided to do a video. The questions that I have to answer in my video are:

      1.     In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
2.     How does you media product represent particular social groups?
3.     What kind of media distribution might distribute you media product and why?
4.     Who would be the audience for your media product?
5.     How did you attract/address your audience?
6.     What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing the product?
7.     Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

I will be answering these questions over the next few days and creating a script ready for my video.

Final Double Page Spread

Hey Everyone,

The final piece of my finished product is my double page spread. I have my photo on the left hand side and my article on the right with the title of the article going across the two pages. I have added two quote to the page, one is an extract from my article which I kept in the middle column of my article and made larger and bolder to draw attention to it, the other quote is on the bottom right hand side of my image just to add a bit more to the page and give it my own style. At the bottom of my article is the album cover I created and in the top left is the caption for my main image. Overall I am happy with the final result of the page.

Final Contents Page

Hey Everyone,

The next one of my finished products is my contents page. I have two columns of pictures and articles down each side of the page with a then slightly larger image at the top center of the page. I have my plus column underneath my centre article with the information about subscribing and the magazines social media accounts along the bottom of the page. I got a lot of my inspiration from NME when I designed the layout of this page and I am very pleased with the way it turned out.

Final Front Cover

Hey Everyone,

Today I thought I'd show you all my finished products starting with my front cover. So as you can see I have main artists name at the bottom of the page with a quote from her underneath it. Along the side I have three main sections that would interest people to read the magazine and underneath that I have a plug advertising your chance to win VIP tickets. I am really happy with my final front cover and I think it has developed at lot since my rough cut.

Deadline Day

Hey Everyone,

Today Is my deadline for the project and I still had a fair amount to do but luckily I managed to get it all done. The first thing I did was finished of my double page spread so that I could then focus the rest of my time on my front cover. I decided that my photo on my double page spread needed to be edited again as the colour of her face didn't look very good. I had a few complications doing this but once I had had a bit of help it looked so much better! Then it was just adding finishing touches such as adding a caption to my photograph and then deciding on the final position of the caption and the quote. Then I added a red line at the top and bottom going across both pages. This was just to add a bit of style to the page and give it a professional touch. Once I had decided this was finished I then moved on to my front cover. I finished adding the stories to it and then added a red line to go in between the stories to separate them and to also link in with the style of my double page spread. I also added a plug to the cover. I made it a typical circle with a white background and a red outline. Inside the plug I was advertising the chance to win free tickets to a concert. Finally I checked spelling and readability and altered any mistakes, I also made "Wilson" from the heading "Megan Wilson" slightly larger to give the page a bit of edge and make it look more professional.

Magazine Update 11

Hey everyone,

Today I added the my album cover that I made to my double page spread. I have placed it at the bottom of my article. I have added "Buy Just another lost soul" above the image and then below it I have added the date that it will be released. Around this I have used the same markings as I have for quote so that it links in with the rest of the page and give the page some house style. I have also started to change the layout of my front cover. Now that I have a new image for my front cover I cant start basing my layout around that. I have kept the name of the artist and the quote below it in the same place although I have changed the actual quote. I have then started to add some other stories down one side of the page. I also checked my contents page to make sure everything was perfect on it so that all I have to do before the deadline tomorrow is the finishing touches to my font cover and double page spread.

Completing my Contents Page

Hey everyone,

Today I filled in the two missing gaps on my contents page with an image from each of my contents page photo shoots. I also added the captions to go underneath the images. Finally I rearranged the stories and images so that there was variation across the page and I didn't have too many similar pictures next to each other. I then double checked everything on my contents page to make sure there was no spelling mistakes and that everything was in the right place so that I then knew this page was finished and I could focus on my other two pages during the next few days ready for my deadline on Wednesday.

Album Cover

Hey Everyone,

Today I created the album cover for my main artist to go on my double page spread. I used one of the photos I took in my photo shoot the other day which I decided I wasn't going to use on my front cover as I thought it was more suitable for the album cover. I created it in Photoshop, I opened the image and cropped it down to an album case size. I then added text of the name of her album. I placed half of the name above her head and the rest below. I also added her name in a different a slightly smaller font to her title. Then it was just making finishing touches of the colour of the writing and the font I wanted to use. Here is what the final album cover looks like:

Photoshoot Edits

Hey Everyone,

So today I edited the photos I took yesterday of my main model. Here are the images before and after with a little description of what I did to each image to improve it.

                     Before                                                                                                    After

For this image I only changed elements of her face. I used the burn tool to darken her eyebrows and eyelashes and I used the dodge tool to brighten her eyes. Then I air brushed her skin and used the spot healing brush to get rid of any other imperfections.

For this image I again mainly focused on the facial features and used the dodge and burn tool. I again air brushed the face and spot healed it. Finally I adjusted the saturation very slightly to make her hair a bit brighter.

For this image I again air brushed her face and used the healing tool to get rid of any spots. I also used the dodge and burn tool again just to add emphasis to her eyes and eye brows. I also changed the hue and saturation slightly to make the colours of the image more vibrant.

For this image I edited the face the same as every other previous picture and then I adjusted the hue and saturation levels slightly. I also tried to blur out the background slightly so the attention was mainly on her although it didn't work as well as I had hoped.

For this image I edited her face the same as the other photos and then adjusted the hue and saturation to make her hair a richer colour. Finally i adjusted the skin tone as she looked really light this changed the tans and browns in the image to make the contrast between her face and the rest of the image less noticeable.

Main Photoshoot 2

Hey Everyone,

Today I was taking pictures of my main model Megan. I needed to retake the photo for my front over and I have also had the idea of making an album cover to put onto my double page spread so I also needed a picture for that. I mainly took close up pictures face on or at a slight angle. I took a few mid shots at an angle just so I had a variation of shots to choose from. I want to photo shop some of my favourite pictures before I show them to you so I will be posting them soon.

Final Contents Page Photo shoot

Hey Everyone,

Today I took some more pictures for my contents page to fill the last space left. I again wanted to take them on location but this time I had a group of three boys, as I didn't have any group photos apart from the one of the two girls. Since I wanted a location different from any of my other photos it seemed logical to go somewhere I hadn't been before to take pictures so I went down to the beach with my models and took some pictures along the promenade and even some on the beach and rocks. Here of some of the photos I took:

Contents Page Photoshoot 2

Hey Everyone,

Today I took some more pictures for my contents page as I needed two more photos to fill the space I had left. I needed these photos to be on location so I had some more varied photos than just the ones I took in the photo studio. I also knew I needed my model to be in a different position to the photos I already have, to once again give variation, so I tried to stay clear from taking any close ups or long shots. I had the idea of having him sitting down with his guitar. Here are some of my favourite photos:

Photo shoot Thoughts

Hey Everyone,

Today I thought about what I want the setting behind my model and what pose I want my model to be in so I am ready for the photo shoot with my model tomorrow.

Photo Shoot Organisation

Hey Everyone

Today I arranged when I am going to meet my model and where I am going to meet him, ready for my photo shoot in the next couple of days.

Front Cover Update

Hey Everyone,

Today I thought I'd show you all the progress of my front cover. Unfortunately I haven't changed much to it since the rough cut mainly because I need to take a new photo for it and I don't know what the layout of my new photo is going to be so I don't know how to arrange the stories around it yet. So what I have done is used the photo I have for now and added another story to the other side of the page so that I still have the stories to use when it comes to changing the payout when I get my new photo. I have also added a price just above the bar code
.

Magazine Update 10

Hey Everyone,

So today, again I didn't do much on my project apart from printing out my pages as they currently are and reading through my double page spread article to check for any spelling, punctuation or grammar mistakes. I also checked over my other two pages for any mistakes and noted them down on the page so I knew what to change when I next go to edit my project.

Double Page Spread Update

Hey Everyone,

Today I thought I'd share with you all the progress I have made on my double page spread. Now that I've had feedback and a week so far to make improvements I have made several changed to my page. I have changed the title of my double page spread so that it links in with the name of her album, I also made the word Megan stand out by making it white and giving it a red border. I have also added a quote in to the text to break it up and added lines to create corners to separate the quote from the text and make it stand out. I have also made all the columns of text start at the same place and added a subheading above it. I have also created a space at the bottom of my article for the album cover I want to create for the artist.

Wednesday, 9 April 2014

Magazine Update 9

Hey Everyone,

I didn't do much on my project today but I did look over my project and decide on what I wanted to improve or add to my pages and made a note of these decisions. I decided when and where I was going to take my new pictures for my front cover, who I was going to use to be the models for my contents page to fill in the missing gaps, and again decided when I was going to take those potos and where I was going to take them.

Tuesday, 8 April 2014

Contents Page Update and Preview

Hey Everyone,

Today I focused some more on my contents page. I improved my "plus" column but adding a "+" before and after the word and then putting it in a box. Next I added a few more stories to the column and made the subheadings slightly larger and bolder than the rest of the text so it stands out. Then I added numbers next to each story and made them the same colour as the other page numbers and the same font. I put each number in there own frame so I could place them along side the frame with my writing in so that the numbers stood out from the text. Until I have two more pictures to fill in the space left I cant do much more to this page so here's what it looks like so far.

Update

Hey everyone,

So the next two weeks are the Easter holidays and I have a lot of other work to do which means I wont be working on my magazine everyday so I wont be posting everyday but I will still make sure to keep you all up to date with the progress of my magazine every couple of days.

Friday, 4 April 2014

Magazine Update 8

Hey Everyone,

Today I decided I would re-Photoshop some of my images. Since I didn't have a great deal of time until my rough cut I put a few of my images into my pages without photo shopping them, but now I have a bit more time I decided to edit those images. I edited a few images on my contents page and altered a few things on my double page spread Image.

Wednesday, 2 April 2014

Magazine Update 7

Hey Everyone,

Today I just made little changes to every one of my pages such as editing colours or fonts and making sure things where in the exact place I wanted them. The main thing I did today apart from tweaking little things was thinking of a new title for my double page spread as the one I had was too simple. Once I had finally thought of one I then changed the font and style until it fitted perfectly to the page.

Monday, 31 March 2014

Magazine Update 6

Hey Everyone,

Today I changed the page numbers on my contents page. I changed them so that the background of the numbers where white which meant that when I put them onto my images it meant that they were a lot easier to see and it gave an interesting effect as it made the images look like there had been a small part cut out for the number, my style model also does this in some of there issues and it was one of the things I really liked. I also added a quote to my article on my double page to break up the blocks of text. I added lines around the quote to create corners so that it stood out from the rest of the text. I also made the quote quite large and the font of the quote a different font to the rest of my article so again it would stand out.

Saturday, 29 March 2014

Magazine Update 5

Hey everyone,

Today I decided I wanted to change the layout of my contents page so it was more like my style model. I made it so that I still had the one larger image from the previous layout but rather than it being at one side I have made it slightly smaller and placed it in the middle directly under the title of my page. From there I then arranged my other images and articles around it. By doing this I have a lot less spare white space between things although it now means I have enough room to fit two more pictures and articles onto my page which means I will need to take more photos. I also added a subtitle to my double page spread and re-edited the photo on my double page spread.

Friday, 28 March 2014

Magazine Update 4

Hey Everyone,

Today, I started to make changes to my magazine from the feedback I was given. First I added more stories to my front cover and made sure the writing was clear and readable, I also added a price. Then I changed some of the fonts on my double page spread and decided to even out the columns of writing as it didn't look very neat the way I had left them. The final thing I did today was to make up and add the website and social media accounts for my magazine to my contents page, I also added the Facebook, Twitter and Instagram logos underneath.

Rough Cut Deadline

Hey Everyone,

Today was the rough cut deadline so I spent some time in class and at the end of the day making finishing touches to my pages such as changing stories on my contents page, adding a story and a bar code to my front cover, and adding a drop capital on my double page spread article. Unfortunately I just ran of time so there were a few things I didn't get to add like page numbers and some of the texts weren't in the correct font but I will be getting feedback from my target audience in the next few days and then I have another few weeks to improve on this feedback until my final deadline. Here’s what my pages look like so far:

Tuesday, 25 March 2014

Magazine Update 3

Hey Everyone,

Today I finished of my contents page making sure I had stories to go with every picture I had and adding a “Plus” column and a subscription section. I used my style models for this idea as NME have a “Plus” column and both NME and Q have a subscription section. I also made a few changed to my double page spread such as adding a quote down the side of the picture and making it curve around my model.

Monday, 24 March 2014

Magazine Update 2

Hey Everyone,

Now I have pictures of my main model and I have edited them, I spent today choosing which photo I wanted to use for my cover and my double page spread and inserting them into my layout. Then I focused on writing a title for my main article on my front cover and a quote to go underneath it. I also added a few other stories around the side of the page and added an issue number just under the title. I also finished writing my article for my double page spread which I started last night and added it to my page where I found out that it was too long so I spent some time editing bits out of it to make it a more acceptable length for the columns I had already made.

Main Photoshoot

Hey Everyone,

Today I took my main model up to the city centre to take some images for my double page spread and my front cover. I took a wide rand of shots in different places so I had a variety of photos to try on my pages. Unfortunately I wont be able to use all of these photos as I will have to choose the most appropriate photos out of all the photos that I took to use in my magazine. Here are some of my favourite images that I took and what they look like after I have edited them.

Photo shoot Organizing

Hey Everyone,

Today I have just been organizing with my model when and where my main photo shoot will be tomorrow. I have decided to go into the city centre and wonder along some of the bridges and old castle ruins and see what looks good as a location.

Friday, 21 March 2014

Contents Page Update

Hey Everyone,

Today I focused on my contents page as I now have most of the images for my contents page from the photo-shoot I did yesterday. I downloaded some fonts from “Da Font” for my contents page title and for the subheadings and stories on the page. I then arranged the photos I wanted to use on my page and started to add page numbers to each photo remembering the style colours I wanted to use from my target audience research and my style model, NME and Q, and how they layout their contents page.

Contents Page Photo Shoot

Hey Everyone,

Yesterday I took some photos in the studio that’s been set up at school for my contents page. I had five models which I was taking pictures of and as I wasn't too sure of who I wanted to use as solo artist and who I wanted to use in a group I took a wide variation of shots. I used an SLR camera which was provided by the school as well as various lighting equipment. Today I have looked through my photos and selected a hand full which I really liked and might want to use for my magazine; I have then edited them slightly to make them look better for my magazine. Below I have chosen a few images to show you the original images and then what then now look like after I have Photo-shopped them.

                  Before                                                                                                          After

For this image I cropped it down to a better size and then changed the brightness and some of the colour saturation of the photo as it was just a bit too bright, this made him stand out more from the back ground as we as making the colour of his clothes bolder and his face less pale. Finally I sharpened the image slightly.

First I cropped it down to make it a long mid shot and to get rid of some of the excess white space above them. Then I changed the brightness of the image as it was too light. To finish it of I adjusted the saturation of the colours to make the colours a bit brighter.

                                      Before

For this image I felt like the girl in the middle and the girl on the left looked a lot stronger than the girl on the right so I decided to Photoshop her out of the picture but first cropping it and then easing the image that was left next to her shoulder. To finish of I adjusted to brightness slightly and the colour saturation just to emphasis the light and dark tones as add a bit of extra colour to their hair and faces.
